It is no secret that the main reason that I went WOA this year was because of the fact that the mighty Bruce dickinson would attend this excellent Metal Festival. I don't think it was his best show, but definitely worth the trip. Starting off with "Silver Wings", one of two new tracks from the Best-of release. Personally I think it's a killer track, so a great opener. Nice to hear some tracks from "Skunkworks". I've always liked that album, so nice to hear and see some of the boys from that release.
I had been looking forward to seeing Alex Dickson, and he totally played the gig as I expected. With a lot of intensity and nerve. Great performance. After the second new number, "Broken", it was time for the first of four Maiden songs. "Revelations" is always a cool track, when played live, and this was no exception. Played a bit slow, but still with loads of energy. The only disappointment for me was the fact that people only really screamed and sang when the Maiden songs were played. Don't get me wrong. There were plenty of action in the crowd, but it always seemed to peak in the Maiden tracks. A shame, because Bruce really has great solo material. "Tears Of The Dragon" is an example though, on a Bruce track that made the croud really scream their lungs out. Great track!
Personally I think that the highlights of show were "Silver Wings", "The Tower" and "Powerslave". "Powerslave" was clearly the highlight of the night. Alex is no H, but close enough! The only thing I missed was more tracks from "The Chemical Wedding". But you just can't have it all in a 90 minutes set.
Finishing the whole thing off was a delightful and somewhat heavy version of Tom Jones classic track "Delilah". Some nice dance steps from Bruce. (You should have been there)
All in all a very fine concert, with only minor problems sound wise. Bruce's voice disappeared a few times, but I think that was because of the fact that he screamed so loud that the sound equipment couldn't cope with it!
To rate the show is difficult, but I'll give it a shot. Not his best performance, and I think he would agree, but a very solid and heavy indeed. But the fact that only one track of the "The Chemical Wedding" made it onto the setlist, and "Tattooed Millionaire" was in there. I don't think it's his finest hour, but there you go. You might disagree. But that's how i feel about it.

thank you for the kind words. No sadly I don not write anymore. I would like to, but there you go. There's just not enough time in a day.
And again: Thank you so very much for the kind words. The reason I wanted to write these reviews, was to give my view on the Maiden releases, and if that has helped you in any way, then its an honour to have helped you. Thank you.
stay metal.

Thanks for responding to my message!
I again give u great credits for writing such wonderful reviews - And u deserve this high praise
I have all the seven albums of maiden - right from Iron maiden to Seventh son. I am saving my pocket money every month so that i get the other albums as well. And let me tell u that the single most reason for me buying the albums were ur reviews!. Certain albums like powerslave, i keep listening to aces high(happens to be first track), I dont even switch to the next track becoz the first track is so bloody good! Also in the album NOB, I always play the TRACK 9 - Hallowed Be Thy Name - The GREATEST MASTERPIECE EVER. I never even bother listening to other tracks! I keep that on a repeat and it plays upto 3am in the night.. some times till sunlight.. MY GOD.. what a song! But from ur reviews i discovered more classics, and still in the process of discovering them
Also please mail me - if u find time!

Also i read a review of "Dance of Death" which was there in the "comments section" of hashman's review.. Was that yours?

Thanks again for your acknowledgements!
Since u r quite a big fan of maiden and i guess u must have been following the band's histroy - i have a few questions about the band.
1) Why dont they play the song - phantom of the opera in live set? Personally i feel its a masterpiece - its up there with seventh son, rime, trooper etc.
But still i maintain my stance - HALLOWED is greatest ever!
2) Why did dennis stratton, paul dianno, clive burr and quite recently blaze bayley - leave the band?
3) Why did maiden go with 3 guitars. I feel 3 guitars is a "luxury". Though they prove us wrong by the incredible success of brave new world and dance of death! Also i guess u mentioned in ur reviews that "3 guitars is a mess"
4)Finally - I am from India - A lovely place - Please, if u happen to meet maiden personally, ask them to play here. Till now i guess none of the heavy metal kings have visted india even once! Other musical legends (roger waters, deep purple, scorpions, rolling stones..etc) have visited india...
I want to see Iron Maiden here...
UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!
