Interview with Gianni Pontillo - Pure Inc.
Written by Michael

AFM Records contacted RevelationZ Magazine concerning an interview with Pure Inc. Of course we jumped on the opportunity and got some answers from Pure Inc. singer Gianni Pontillo.

In 2004 you released your debut album, which RevelationZ Magazine chose second best album of that year. What were your expectations at that time for the album and were you satisfied with the reception of the album?

Funny, some people likes us?:-)) That's nice of you thanx a lot. I guess the first album was important to get the chance to be recognized in the rock/metal scene and so we had no expectations we were happy that our album would have been released. Despite the fact we were the first time in the studio recording such an important album we managed that quite well and are still happy with the product.

You toured extensively in support of the debut. What good things and maybe bad things did it do to you as a band?

Only good things. We had the chance to meet many fans that was really great plus we went along in the band and with the other band members of every group we've been on tour with perfectly.

You supported several acts like Doro, Michael Schenker and Masterplan on their respective European tours. What tour did you enjoy most? And on what Tour benefited Pure Inc most?

Every tour was important and every tour was great but i guess the first tour with MSG was more intensive because of the circumstances we had. On the road with the Camper with 6 of us, Michael in the hospital then we went back home and a day later we started again plus the fight of the MSG members. It was like the first love, it's always a little special.

Which song from the debut album do you most enjoy playing live?

Fear My Eyes

What surprises me very much when I hear both your albums is that you succeed in transferring all your live energy to disc. Do you consider yourself as a live band?

Yes, we're real life band extremely energetic and crazy.

Did your touring influence the writing of the new songs?

I guess not really considering the style of the band we toured with but the tours made us become better and so i think it did influence us in a way.

An old proverb says that album number 2 is always the hardest? Can you relate to that and how?

If i think what's going on right now with the band I would say to proverb say the truth because we're having a hard time . No tour at the moment and not many gigs either in our country quite paradox. We played more with the first album so far but i'm not superstitious so i think we'll find our way out of this.

Looking back in the rear-view mirror - Is there anything you wished to change on the new album?

Not really I wish we had spent more mixing the album but in general i'm really happy.

It seems like "A New Days Dawn" is more varied and spans wider. How would you describe the new album?

Custommade rock with great hooks

How long did it take to write the "A New Days Dawn" and what influenced the process?

We spent 1 month recording and mixing the album plus we had concert in between and had to work beside. I guess everyone in the band brought his influence in the writing process for me lyrical was it: all these world problems like the floods and other natural envoirment, the president of the usa the sadness and poverty in our decade plus the loss of Andy ex-AFM boss and of course love, love is an important part of our life.

What are your favorite tracks on the new album? Please elaborate?

Burst: has a not typical Pure Inc touch, the midpart is more dreamy we were talking about if it would have fit and at the end we said to ourselves; if it's the way we feel then it has to be that way.
Saviour: was the last song we wrote before we entered the studio it's a very fresh song with a led zeppelin attitude and an audioslave touch i like it a lot.
Skinflint: is a killer song extremely energetic an powerful, life this song blows your mind away.
And of Course one of my really fav. I'm a Rolling Stone that's just simply kick ass Rock'n'Roll, a great song.

Are there any touring plans in support of the new album?

I'm sorry no big Tour at the moment but we play some showcases with the traceelords in May through Germany and Holland and we will support Motörhead in June here in switzerland

Pure Inc. is powerful cocktail, which contains many musical ingredients. Since you make such unique music, who influenced you?

Old shool bands like Led zepp or Black sabbath even Deep purple and of course Audioslave, Red Hot Chilli...,Stone temple pilots, a great mix.

You are based in Switzerland. Do you consider that a major disadvantage in "making it" in the music business?

Yes, switzerland is one of the worst place if you want to make and live the rock'n'roll so we try to get as far as we can we love Germany, people there just recognize the work and they are very faithful.

You also sing in the band The Order. Is Sandro, Gentman or Dave doing any side projects also?

I think Dave does some side project with his father.

How do you see the music industry today?

Well, i think nowadays you can make every shit as long as it's good promoted you'll get real famous but it won't last for a long time. It's all about making fast money. The business is quite dead but we play and make music because we love it. We haven't seen a cent from the work we've done so far we're not even able to shelter the costs

Name the 3 highest point of Pure Inc.'s career?

Sorry i don't know exactly what you mean but why don't you answer this question it's not so easy to talk good about ourselves

What have been the most disappointing thing in your career?

The fact that we don't get the chance here in switzerland to support bigger bands and to increase coz' we think we got potential to be a worlds band.

What are the future plans for Pure Inc.?

I hope a great tour and another great album

Any final words?

Thank you all. See ya on the road soon.
