Events and Reports - Sweden Rock Festival 2004 - Day 1 (Michael) - TNT
Written by Michael

TNT, Rock Stage - Thursday June 10

After a brief welcome announcement from Vanessa Warwick and the local toastmaster TNT had the honor to open one of the 2 main stages at Sweden Rock festival 2004.

The sun was shinning bright when TNT kicked into opening song Invisible Noise from their latest effort "My Religion." The whole band sounded really great with Tony Harnell acting as frontman and Ronnie Le Tekro as the musical mastermind.

TNT was only scheduled to play for one hour, so more or less it was a greatest hits set consisting of Intuition, Forever Shine On (amazing live), Caught between the Tigers, 10.000 Lovers, Seven Seas and Downhill Racer. These classic songs were spiced with a few new songs She Needs Me and the title track from "My Religion".

This show was really excellent and I had my doubts that any band on Sweden Rock 2004 could top TNT's performance. The band seemed all happy to play for the enthusiastic audience and Tony mentioned from stage that he saw every flag from the Scandinavian countries from the stage.

The only flaw in the concert was the use of sampled backing vocals. Tony Harnell really sounded great live and so did the band. Therefore it was a shame that they used sampled backing vocals instead of live ones. Ronnie Le Tekro's facial expression with open mouth couldn't take the attention away from his fantastic skills on the guitar. Tony Harnell compared him with "that other Swedish guitarist" - expect for Ronnie kicks his ass. True, since Ronnie Le Tekro always keeps melody in his solos.

TNT gave what the crowd what they wanted with a top professional performance with lots of sing along tunes for the crowd, who mostly was around 30 years or more. The original bass player Morty Black did not play this show, but both Tony and Ronnie were so charismatic that it couldn't ruin the overall impression. The substitute bass player sounded tight and blended well with the band as well.

The band ended with Everyone's a Star and TNT left the stage to the sound of Always look on the bright side of Life from "Life of Brian". For me Sweden Rock festival opened with the best concert of the whole festival.

Hey Mike. I agree, TNT did a really great show, even though I hated the end... I wasen't such a big fan of TNT before Sweden Rock Festival 2004, but that experience changed alot. Cheers.

Didn't see it, wasn't there... but I really miss TNT, I'm in Los Angeles and have not seen TNT for a long, long time. They were certainly one of the best of the "underrated" rockin' bands of the 80's. Love the "Everyone's a Star" (including the video w/ the HOT looking brunette on skates!!), 10,000 Lovers, and Far as the Eye Can See. Keep rockin' TNT!
