Various Artists - Playlist - March 2009 Friday, March 13, 2009 One Man Army and the Undead Quartet: Grim Tales
I totally agree with you on that! IMO one of best metal albums in 2008!
Various Artists - Alanna's Highlights 2008 Wednesday, January 28, 2009 TRIVIUM - SHOGUN
Yes, I also have problems with Matt Heafy (that is his name!) as a "singer" (he often tries too much) but still, "Shogun" is an awesome album. You obviously don't listen bands with harsh or growl vocals and that's OK, but then I don't understand why is a new (or any) Trivium relase disappoitment and tragedy for you? They do this kind of sound and this kind of vocals from the beginning, so what's the big deal?
"Everyone wants these guys to replace the displaced kings of speedy mainstream thrashy metal, Metallica..."
WRONG! Only some journalists wants that! Not Trivium and not their fans! And that comparation with Metallica is completely wrong also. I read it first time in Metal Hammer (around 2004), when they also appointed Shadows Fall as new Testament! How stupid is that!? Metal mags (like any other music mags) wants new icons for their covers and that is the only truth...
Metallica never played "speedy mainstream thrashy metal" because that genre don't exist! When did you hear mainstream thrash metal? What is then underground thrash metal? Uh....
Fates Warning - Parallels Wednesday, December 31, 2008 Masterpiece!

Whitesnake - Whitesnake Wednesday, December 31, 2008 Masterpiece!

MSG - McAuley Schenker Group - MSG Wednesday, December 31, 2008 9/10
Def Leppard - Hysteria Wednesday, December 31, 2008 Too much sugar could kill you...

Danzig - III: How the Gods Kill Wednesday, December 31, 2008 8,5/10
Emir Hot - Sevdah Metal Monday, June 23, 2008 I sooooo disagree!
Production isn't that great but still this album is a MESTERPIECE!
10/10
Firewind - The Premonition Friday, May 9, 2008 AWESOME ALBUM!
10/10
Royal Hunt - Collision Course - Paradox 2 Sunday, March 30, 2008 Very, very good album!
I agree with your comments about John West - one of best today's heavy metal/hard rock singers... He surely didn't fit Royal Hunt's music and his voice isn't used on their records like it should be. On the other hand, on his solo stuff or in Feinstein he sings like an angel!
9/10
Jaded Heart - Sinister Mind Monday, February 18, 2008 For me, this is THE BEST Jaded Heart album with perfect score and top 5 release for year 2007!
10/10
The Codex - The Codex Thursday, January 10, 2008 I heard and bought almost all those other projects before (Tony O'Hora and specially Allen/Lande are AWESOME!) and I still think that "The Codex" is a masterpiece! Yes, I agree with you that Karlsson's projects do have somehow similiar sound but if songs are great - they are GREAT! He is excellent in what he does so why change that? And I don't think that this album missing emotional impact - the thing is that "The Codex" is ment to be more faster, heavier and with no true ballads...
I gues it's all about musical tastes...
The Codex - The Codex Friday, January 4, 2008 Sorry but I don't agree with review...
This album was number 4 on my list of best melodic rock/hard rock/heavy metal releases in 2007 - right behind latest albums from Symphony X, After Forever and Jaded Heart (I have different list for extreme metal albums)!
Every song on "The Codex" is GREAT - catchy, memorable, powerful, melodic and on top of that Mark Boals with his wonderful voice!
My score will be:
10/10 (and I DON'T give maximum score very easy!)
