Thursday, August 4, 2011 - Sonata Arctica To Release Live DVD
Finnish melodic metallers Sonata Arctica will release a concert DVD, "Live In Finland", on October 28. The set will include the band's entire April 15, 2011 performance at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland as well as a bonus disc containing four songs that were filmed at the band's own festival on August 8, 2009 in Kemi, Finland. Also featured on the DVD will be Sonata Arctica's promotional videos for the songs "Don't Say A Word", "Paid In Full" and "Flag In The Ground" as well as a photo gallery and behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the DVD. There will also be a bonus CD containing eight songs that were recorded at the Kemi festival concert.

Commented Sonata Arctica keyboardist Henrik "Lance" Klingenberg: "It's been a very hot summer here in Finland, and while most people headed to the beach, we've been working our asses off editing and compiling our new DVD.

This time around we wanted to give you a show from our home country Finland.

The main show was filmed at the Teatria club in Oulu, Finland, last April. It showcases Sonata Arctica towards the end of 'The Days Of Grays' world tour, which started back in 2009.

We played a total of over 180 shows in almost 40 countries during the tour.

This will be a two-DVD release with lots of bonuses. We'll have tour documentaries, making-ofs as well as music videos and bonus songs from our very own Sonata Arctica Open Air festival, held in our hometown Kemi in August 2009.

Whether you missed us or checked us out during this world tour, this DVD will be the complete guide to what we've been up to these past two years.

I'm sure you all will enjoy watching this DVD as much as we've enjoyed making it.

'The Days Of Grays' world tour has been absolutely fantastic and I'm very happy that we've managed to capture all the ups and downs on film. You'll know what I'm talking about when we get this monster package out!"

Friday, April 3, 2009 - Sonata Arctica - Album update
News from Sonata Arctica:

So far we have about half of the new SONATA ARCTICA record in shape, so we're missing some songs, as usual. In April we start recording, and, as before, me and Tony are working at our home studios while the other guys record at more 'professional' studios, and by the end of May everything should be recorded and we're ready to mix and master. I know a lot of you are really eager to hear what the album sounds like and probably the speculations have already started on the forums, etc. I can only say that it's a bit darker and maybe not so complex as 'Unia'. Nevertheless, it's definitely not a back-to-the-roots album with fast power metal. All the trademark SONATA stuff is on there, solos, lots of singing some slower songs. Actually, I can hardly wait to hear how it turns out myself.

Next fall we start to tour again, it will once again be a massive effort and going all over the world... at least once. We'll be starting the world tour in.....shit, I can't say that yet. Anyway, there'll be a lot of new places and even more of places we've already been to.

The record is due in September 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Monday, August 6, 2007 - Sonata Arctica part ways with guitarist
Sonata Arctica have issued the following announcement in the wake of rumours that they have parted ways with guitarist Jani Liimatainen:

"As many already know, our guitarist Jani Liimatainen has been absent from the lineup this spring and summer. The reason was his messing around with his compulsory military/civil/prison duty, or rather, complete failure to take care of it.

This matter, and everything that goes with it, caused a split between Jani and the other band members. This split was impossible to mend without Jani's help and co-operation.

Therefore we would like to make known the following: During fall of '06 and spring of '07, Jani's personal matters and actions drove us to a situation where we had no option but to ask Jani to leave the band.

Jani was notified of this in May, and the separation was amicable. We wanted to give Jani the chance to get his life together before making this public, which is why we didn't make this announcement earlier. We wish Jani well on his chosen path.

'Show must go on,' so, facing the facts, we hereby humbly announce that Elias Viljanen is from this day forward a full and official member of Sonata Arctica. Throughout this summer, on many occasions, Elias has shown himself to be able to fill the big boots Jani left behind.

We hope our friends and our fans understand that this was the only choice left for us to make so that our band could continue. Sonata Arctica has always been, and always will be, more than the sum of its parts. The band has become for us a way of life, a lifeline that simply can not be cut off.

A long 'Unia' tour lies in front of us.

We extend Elias a warm welcome to the Sonata family, and we hope the fans will, too. Sonata Arctica is whole again.

See you on the road!"
