Tuesday, July 7, 2009 - The End Of Metal Church
Metal Church has released the following statement:

"To all of our fans and friends...

"We regretfully announce that Metal Church is calling it quits.

"The performance at Rocklahoma will be our last show. We have had to cancel the shows scheduled for August and that, among other things, has led us to have to make this decision.

"There has been far too much frustration and disappointment in trying to keep moving forward. The collapse of our record company, SPV, has made it next to impossible for us to continue in any kind of professional manner due to lack of tour support. This decision was not made lightly.

"We do have unfinished business in the studio, and with any luck we will have something that will be of interest to Metal Church fans in the near future.

"We would like to thank all the fans that have stuck with Metal Church through all these years, the lineup changes and the ups and downs.

"We can't tell you how much your support has meant to us, we appreciate each and every one of you.

"It's been a great ride."

Friday, November 10, 2006 - Metal Church video online
Metal Church's video for the song "Mirror of Lies" has been posted here (you must have Flash enabled to view the video). The clip was shot by Roax Films on the band's "Light in the Dark" summer European tour at the Wacken Open Air festival and in Hamburg at the Markthalle. See if you can spot the good looking guy in the white summer hat :)

The band also recently uploaded the original 1983 demo recordings of the songs "Hitman" and "Deathwish" (both instrumental and with David Wayne's vocals), along with two other early works. Click here to read the history of these songs as well as download them.

Thursday, February 9, 2006 - Metal Church news
The legend returns: Metal Church are scheduled to release their latest album, A Light In The Dark, in Germany on May 26, 2006, in Europe on May 29th and in the USA early June, reanimating the zeitgeist of their first two releases, Metal Church (1984) and The Dark (1986). "It's almost twenty years ago that we shook up the international metal scene for the first time with these two recordings," recalls guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof. "Just the right moment to bring that era to mind with a brand-new album and the same sort of energy that we had back then." Metal Church are currently at the studio, recording over a dozen new tracks. It remains to be seen how many of these will make it onto the new album. One thing, however, is certain: the album will include a new version of the classic 'Watch The Children Pray' as a tribute to vocalist David Wayne, who passed away in May 2005.

Vanderhoof, who doubles as sound engineer and producer during the recordings, promises an offering featuring all the important trademarks of typical Metal Church tracks. "Before our new drummer Jeff Plate joined the band, I would have claimed that the new album will be a traditional heavy metal album through and through. Now I'm not so sure; we may end up experimenting with the odd unusual idea, but we'll stay within the framework defined by the band's history. A Light In The Dark will represent what the name Metal Church has been standing for for the last twenty years."

The current band line-up consists of Kurdt Vanderhoof (guitar), Ronny Munroe (vocals), Jay Reynolds (guitar), Steve Unger (bass) and new addition Jeff Plate (drums). "I've known Jeff since my solo tour with Savatage," Vanderhoof recalls. "And during the 2005 Metal Church tour, when he drummed with opening act Chris Caffery's band, we also got on really well. So it suggested itself to ask him whether he wanted to join Metal Church." The band have been at the studio since January, and Ronny Munroe is currently recording his vocal parts. A Light In The Dark is scheduled to be mixed in early March, and Metal Church will tour Europe a week after the release, presenting their new material.

The tour dates are as follows:

01.02. D-München - Metropolis
02.02. CH-Pratteln - Z7
04.06. B-Vosselaar - Biebob
05.06. NL-Amsterdam - Melkweg
06.06. D-Essen - Zeche Carl
07.06. D-Hannover - Musikzentrum
08.06. D-Flensburg - Roxy
09.06. SWE-Sölvesborg - Swedenrock Festival
10.06. DK-Copenhagen - The Rock
