S.E.X. Department - S.E.X. Department
S.E.X. Department hails from Italy. The band secured a deal on Perris Records, so unnecessary to state that the style is 80's based Glam Rock.

Normally I am not fond of Italian bands because Italian singers have a characteristic accent, which ruins the listening pleasure. S.E.X. Department singer Kelly "Trash" Mendess hasn't got a big voice nor is he a great technical singer. His range doesn't really justify writing a song like Rock n' Roll Never Dies, because its torture hearing Mendess hitting the high notes. However, Mendess doesn't suffer from the Italian accent and he has a good tone alike Steve Summers from Pretty Boy Floyd.

Doing research for this review I noticed footage on Youtube that made me realize that this isn't all bad. I was watching a live performance from S.E.X. Department and it was cool because this record is what S.E.X. Department sounds like live for better or worse. The band is a 3 piece only with Kelly Mendess also handling guitars.

Album highlight is Revenge of the Vampires with a great signature melody from Mendess. S.E.X. Department doesn't break any new ground, but still pass the examination with their debut. However, they need to skip songs like Italian Cowboy and focus more on great songs like the midtempo Call Me, Baby Call Me and One Way Ticket

Fans of Glam Metal will get a kick out of this, but still it's nowhere near as good as Poison, Ratt and most other bands from the 80s sunset strip scene.
