Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Hallo here is Francesca Chiara, singer of The LoveCrave.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

Me and Simon (on bass) met during high school years so we are best friends since then and played together in other bands before. I met Tank when I moved to Milan, about 10 years ago and I started to collaborate with him in another band called The Flu (a punk/metal/gothic band). With this band we released an album with Sony in 1999 and after that Iakk joined us on drums for the tours. When The LoveCrave was born, in 2004, we called Simon to join us. We wanted a band formed by friends and good musicians at the same time.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Actually not with this band. This project started with a huge experience that we were carrying on our shoulders. We faced every step , from the making of the album to the industry contacts, with total awareness. In other words we felt ready and for the first time in our lives we weren't going to accept conditions, especially on the musical part. Right now we are positive that if you keep the music free you can reach better results.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

It's called "The Angel And The Rain". People should buy it. so we can make another one!!! .. Beside that, it's a well produced album made of 10 good songs . instead of 20 avarage ones. There's a world in it, it's not just a music album so if you have the time and the interest there is a lot to discover listening carefully to it...

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

We are a hard rock band with gothic, metal and electropop influences, it's a "new-goth" style I guess if you have to define it. In the past we all played different music styles and you can hear them all in our music now. From new punk, to glam, to 80s hard rock, to gothic rock ... this is the only way you can create a new mix.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

The writing/production process is really interesting with this band. The songs grow day by day until they reach the highest point for us and when that moment arrives it seems that you can't touch them anymore... hard to explain. My favourite moment was when "Little Suicide" was born ... I realized how powerful music can be inside of me and I still get emotioned, everytime I sing it or listen to it.

How is the writing process in the band?

All the writing process is done by me and Tank. We both bring ideas and work together on them. We argue, try, fight, research together until the perfect shape of the song is reached. Usually we think of a word that can describe that song and build the music world around that word. For example if it's "loneliness" that song has to be THE SONG of the loneliness. :)

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I can speak for me. I realized music was my life very early, I was 13. I've always had a parallel life though. Music is the black part of me but I have a white part too. They never mix cause my life would be so grey. This why I give a big importance to the dark, hidden world that I have inside and to my daytime life as well.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Not really. Tank's idol is Eddie Van Halen and he is a big KISS fan.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

Yes my big regret comes from year 2001. Me and Tank already collaborated together and we had 20 songs ready to be produced for our second album but we were stucked with contracts and that record was never released. We've been stupid to respect these unbelievable contracts and let 20 songs die in our drawer, today I would choose the music.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Yes in 1999 we brought to a big festival here in Italy a song called "Ti Amo Che Strano", everybody loves it here but I never liked it very much ... I guess it's because there was another author involved in that song and it's not completely my style of writing.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

It's very important for me, the words are a part of me, of my sensibility toward the world... except for the cover of the Duran Duran ... honestly I have no idea what the meaning is, words just sound so great! :)

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

In a way I can tell music is suffering, if we talk about business, money ... But talking about scene, ideas and art I think there is so much going on. Music is still a way for young people to express themselves, scream out their rage or give a shape to their love. The beauty of music goes beyond the music industry and there's a power behind it that nobody can really catch. Internet helped so much, I might be wrong but people is starting to buy cds again cause we all know how to download free MP3s but when you hold a cd in your hands you can enjoy the real energy of the world inside of it.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Not fighting it. My idea was to give free complete MP3s of the songs from the official sites of the bands. If you really like an album then you will buy it, of course finding in the cd extras and special features and a very nice packaging. In this way all the crap music would die and the good one would survive.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

I am a very fair, honest and respectful person so I always expect that from the people around me. I can love you forever as a friend or a lover but once I feel betrayed I'm gone forever. I also think that life is a big gift and nobody should ever waste it. There are many ways to find happiness, you might fail but at least you tried.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

I wake up early in the morning, exercise for about half an hour, take a shower, drive all the way to work (I am a graphic designer), get back home at 8 pm, eat something and start working on the band all night. I usually go to bed around 2.

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
I like to walk around in the city with my MP3 player. It helps me thinking and imagining. I write and read a lot, especially write cause usually I'm too tired to read and I get sleepy :). I like to cook and clean the house.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

It's called "turkish coffee" :) You have to know that for italian people the expresso coffee is a ritual thing and we can't end a meal without having a good coffee. In London we found this turkish restaurant and had a great lunch. At the end we all ordered coffee. It looked strange but we couldn't know it was so sick. We were 14 and we ordered 14 sick coffees so the challenge was that Iakk had to finish it eating all the shit that was in his cup. He started spitting coffee all over and he wanted to throw up and we were laughing so bad and filmed the whole thing. At the end the turkish guys of the restaurant were laughing too. Really amazing!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
HIM - Love Metal

Movies:
The Crow

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy

What is your favourite joke?
"Inside me there's a thin woman trying to get out, I usually shut the bitch up with chocolate!"

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

We have a couple of festival to do before the summer . In September we will start working on the new album.
