Saturday, February 27, 2010 - Symphony X - New Album To Be Tracked In March
News from the webmaster of the official Symphony X website:

Spoke to Mike today, and he sounded really happy about the progress that the band's making on the new CD. 'Technically, we could be done' he said. 'I put together some pre-production mixes for us to listen to, and it's all solid. We have over an hour of really good stuff that we really dig; there's more than enough stuff there that we can choose the best songs to go on the CD... but all of the songs are really strong. And there are two almost-done songs that we're going to try to wrap up in the next few days as well, one is shaping up to be 10 minutes plus; it's really cool stuff that we gotta use.' He and Russell have started working through lyrics, and the band plans to start tracking in early March. 'I think everyone will like it' he said, 'it has a little bit of everything'.

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 - Symphony X - Album News
Symphony X's webmaster checks in with the following:

Michael Romeo wishes everyone a Happy New Year and reports that the writing of the new CD is progressing well. He says that the riffs are written and all the ideas are there, they're just trying different arrangements right now. We talked about how we're back to the usual routine of trying to find new ways to say the same old 'the band is writing the CD', and he said 'It's hard to say. Every day is different, we're just doing our thing and trying to make the tunes cool. You put something together one day and then come back the next day and listen to it; sometimes it's cool, and sometimes it sucks and you have to change things around. They're still hoping to be done with the CD by spring.

Nuclear Blast Records has announced the signing of Symphony X.

Nuclear Blast says: Symphony X exemplifies the technical sophistication of progressive metal while transcending the genre by writing amazing songs with masterful musicality and great hooks!

Monday, March 26, 2007 - Symphony X Studio update
The latest studio update from Symphony X:

MJR spent a while on the phone today teasing me mercilessly with descriptions of the songs on Paradise Lost..man, I can't wait for this cd!

That said, on with the info: mixing is being finished up this week, & MJR is very pleased with the work that Jens Bogren has done with the mix. Next up comes mastering which should happen within the next week or two; at this point, the anticipated release date is in late June.

The next cd report, likely in 2-3 weeks, will include the tracklist, so keep an eye out for that.

That's all for now..

Friday, December 29, 2006 - Symphony X album news
An update from Jax, webmaster at the the official Symphony X website:

"Spoke to MJR for a while this afternoon, and here's what he had to say:

They had planned to start the mix on the CD this week, but were delayed a bit overall by the holiday earlier this week, so mixing has been rescheduled for January. Russ has 3 songs to finish (and was on his way to The Dungeon as Mike & I spoke) & hopes to be done with his recording by the weekend, and MJR has a couple more solos that he wants to record, as well as getting some loose ends tied up and polishing things up overall. They are still aiming for a Spring '07 release, & Mike had some pretty exciting things to say about the material, saying that it has something for old fans and new fans alike, so I'm confident more than ever in saying that the CD will be well worth the wait.

So there IS light at the end of the tunnel, & the band appreciates your patience greatly; stay tuned for more info soon!

Friday, September 22, 2006 - Symphony X album news
The latest news from Symphony X:

Time for another studio update! Just spoke to MJR & here's the latest:

It seems that this is doomed to be the 'Murphy's law' cd, where anything that could go wrong, will/has gone wrong. Due to technical problems, first with the studio computers, and then with the failure and subsequent replacement/installation of somewhat-hard-to-find parts in MJR's amps, the band's about 2 weeks behind where they'd hoped to be progress-wise at this point. This has thrown off the projected date for getting the cd out and mixed, so they've had to push back the date for that by about a month in accordance with what dates were available to them.

Currently MJR is getting his guitar parts finished, & after that Mike LePond will finish up his bass parts, and then Russ will enter the studio to work on recording the vocals. Mike asked me to extend the band's appreciation to the fans for their patience, & at this point, is anticipating a release date after the new year; I have no doubt that it will be well worth the wait.

Monday, May 8, 2006 - Symphony X cancel fesitval appearances as Michael LePond prepares for surgery
World Management and Symphony X regretfully announce that the European Festivals for June in Sweden and Spain will unfortunately have to be cancelled due to severe illness. We hope that Michael LePond's surgery will go well, and wish him a speedy and full recovery. We would like to let all the fans know that we will be back on tour in fall of 2006 around release of the band's next record.

From Michael Lepond:

To whom it may concern,

I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease (an Inflammatory Bowel disorder). This has caused an obstruction in my small intestine, making it impossible to digest solid foods. Currently, I am hospitalized where they can feed me through an I.V. unit supplemented with a liquid diet.

But, there is some good news. The doctors tell me that with a surgical procedure, they will have me back to 100% in about 6 weeks, and although it is a chronic disease, this procedure will make it much easier to control it's effects in the future.

I want to thank the band, the crew, the fans and everyone else involved for your understanding and support during this tough time. You will all make my healing process much easier and I'll be back on the bass in no time.

Thursday, November 17, 2005 - Studio update from Symphony X
Here is the latest Symphony X news from guitarist Michael Romeo:

Well, it's November and we have most of the music written, and about half the lyrics finished. Over the next month, we'll work out the arrangements and start putting it all together. This one is taking a bit longer than we expected. There was a lot of 'starting and stopping' with the writing, (between the tours and other unexpected things happening... like flooded studios, that kinda crap). So there have been some monkey-wrenches thrown into our usual way of working.

In the past, it was like this: we'd spend a few weeks talking about some basic ideas and direction for the music / lyrics - then spend eight months to a year writing and putting it all together. Things happen faster that way - you have a goal and direction and you just dedicate your time to make it happen. This time things were a bit different; writing for a while - then on the road - then back to writing - and so on... and inspiration isn't something that you can 'turn on and off', it comes when it comes. You might work on something one day - and like where it is heading - but then stop for a month, come back, and find it difficult to get your mind-set back to the point where you left off. And, although it sounded like a good idea at the time, the phrase "we can write songs on the bus" wasn't happening - too many distractions and other crap going on.

Anyway.to sum it all up, the initial writing process took a little longer than usual - aside from all that, everything else is cool. Things are moving at a good pace now and I'm thinking we can start the actual recording in a month or two.

Once we get to the point where we are tracking - we can get some updates happening (studio reports, some pics, etc.). I know the 'natives are getting restless' - but for now, there isn't a whole lot to say. just tell everyone to hang in there!

Monday, May 2, 2005 - Sypmhony X news
Symphony X studio update:

Michael Romeo has written almost two hours worth of music and is now taking the time to find the right song title and lyrical content for each song. Each song has a certain feel to it, so it's important to make sure the lyrics reflect that feel. The 'darker' tone that they're aiming for which has been mentioned in previous studio reports will apply more to the orchestration and the lyrical content than the vocals, for those who continue to muse over the likelihood of Russell doing death metal growls.

Much of that dark tone would lend itself to ghostly or horror themes (they're tossing around such ideas as Paradise Lost, and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, for example), but MJR says nothing is definite as far as lyrics go. He's also working on fine tuning the orchestration for the 'longer song', which also has a darker feel to it; that said, he wants it to be clear that it will not be 'an epic' like The Odyssey. One major aim throughout the writing process is making sure that the cd remains true to the Symphony X style, and kick things up a notch as well, without it sounding just like music they've done before; 'I want to be excited about the music, so I know the fans will be excited about it' he said.

More info is available at the official Symphony X website.

Sunday, February 13, 2005 - Symphony X news
Studio update from Symphony X:

"They're working at a good pace on writing the new cd, they have parts of songs put together at this point that are equal to about half of the new cd, & have lots of ideas that they're working with. They're being very critical with this cd, wanting to kick it up a notch from The Odyssey & make it the best stuff yet; thus far they're working with material from MJR, Pinnella & LePond. Mike sounded really intent on cranking out some excellent music; he's in 'the writing zone', & only good things come of it when he's in that mindset.

When informed that some fans feared that Mike's comment in an earlier studio report about the new cd being 'darker' than The Odyssey would result in Russ doing death metal growls or the like, Mike said that wasn't going to happen.

Also, 'the dungeon' (the band's studio) has recently been gutted and totally revamped & is at its best ever acoustically, which should help contribute to some excellent sound on the new cd."
