Friday, April 9, 2010 - Redemption - European Tour Cancellation
Nick van Dyk has posted the following message at the official Redemption website:

Dear friends:

I am sorry to say that we are faced with the reality of having to cancel Redemption's intended European shows the summer.

Part of our unique sound comes from our vocalist, Ray Alder of Fates Warning. As a long-time fan of Fates myself, I have always maintained that Redemption would not interfere with Ray's commitment to Fates, and we have worked very carefully and diligently since Ray joined Redemption in 2005 to ensure that both bands would be able to record and perform without conflict.

We intended to play several shows in several countries this summer in support of our new CD, Snowfall on Judgment Day. Our management and local promoters in Europe worked hard to line up some great shows that we were very much looking forward to playing. Originally, there was no conflict, even when Fates announced some special shows and festivals to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their fantastic Parallels CD.

However, some additional shows were then added on Fates' schedule. We intended to carry on and simply reschedule some of our dates, shortening the tour to ensure that there would not be a conflict. Again, our management and local promoters worked hard to ensure we'd be able to do this. It became economically more difficult, but Redemption was prepared to accept that since we really wanted to play for our fans in Europe. As of a week ago, we still intended to move forward.

However, after considering it, Ray determine that the schedule -- which would have involved him performing headline sets with us, then taking a very long flight, having only a brief time to recover before performing headline sets with Fates, then having to fly back to Europe and perform again -- is simply too much to take on. There's just no way to do it while performing at the level that I know Ray wants to.

So I'm left with the unfortunate reality that we're not going to be able to play Europe this summer. Please understand we've done everything we can to find a solution -- but none were available to us. We look forward to coming to Europe at another time, and thank you for your interest and support.

Friday, August 21, 2009 - Redemption - New Track Posted Online
Redemption press release:

REDEMPTION is one of the leading progressive metal bands in the world today, a fact which is further solidified with the release of their much anticipated fourth full-length release, Snowfall On Judgment Day, which is now set for an Oct. 6th North American release via Inside Out Music. REDEMPTION's combination of heaviness, irresistible melodies and emotional urgency has created a unique and resonant voice for this band that sets them apart from the many clones in the genre, and which has gained them the attention of fans, critics and musicians worldwide.

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2000 by guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features legendary progressive metal vocalist Ray Alder of Fates Warning, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel), the phenomenal rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and Sean Andrews (bass) and the keyboard talents of Greg Hosharian. Head over now to www.myspace.com/thebandredemption or http://www.redemptionweb.com/ to check out the epic new track, "Black and White World."

Nicolas van Dyk further comments: "We're very excited for the release of our fourth CD. We've continued to push the envelope of our unique combination of aggression and melody and the result is our heaviest and also our most melodic CD to date. There's a healthy variety in the songwriting, ranging from very heavy tracks to more 'proggy' songs, all of which share the melodic focus and emotional urgency that make our signature sound. We've had the opportunity to play a lot more together prior to the recording of Snowfall and I think the band is both organic sounding and tighter than ever. It's a record we're really proud of and we're glad to get it in the hands of our fans."

In the summer of 2007, the band was selected by the definitive Progressive Metal band, Dream Theater, as direct support for the entirety of Dream Theater's U.S. tour. After performing 26 shows for tens of thousands of fans, REDEMPTION capped off this tour with a performance at the 8th annual ProgPower festival in Atlanta. This monumental performance is now available for all to see in the Frozen in the Moment - Live in Atlanta DVD release (2009, Inside Out Music). Recorded at the ProgPower USA festival in 2007 the DVD includes a 12 minute video and photo tour diary set to our unreleased instrumental from the Dream Theater songwriting contest that the band wrote back in 2003, as well as other clips and outtakes.

Throughout spring 2009 the band finalized Snowfall On Judgment Day, which was mixed by well-known producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jorn Lande, Circus Maximus). The album features a more mature songwriting than ever before and shows the band taking several steps beyond the quality of their previous output, and standing out from the rest of the crowd in the progressive metal scene with their unique brand of heavy, melodic and emotionally powerful music. The legendary James Labrie (Dream Theater) also performs a duet guest vocal spot on the song "Another Day Dies."

REDEMPTION has clearly delivered their best album to date - an album that will stand as a watermark for progressive metal for years to come.

Tuesday, April 7, 2009 - Redemption news
Nick van Dyk has posted the following update on Redemption:

"Hello folks. Been a while since an update...hopefully for those interested the DVD has been a good means of tiding you over, but we will have new music out in the next few months and I can share some details at this time.

Redemption's fourth CD, Snowfall On Judgment Day, is expected to be released this summer worldwide through Inside Out. The album is currently being mixed and mastered by our good and talented friend Tommy Newton, who produced our last two CDs and whose work also includes CONCEPTION, HELLOWEEN, UFO and others, at Area 51 Studios in Celle, Germany. Artwork will once again be by our creative visual partner Travis Smith.

Musically, we have continued to grow and expand on the basic Redemption formula. We have continued to push the envelope of heaviness combined with strong melody and emotional urgency in the music and I think the collection of songs is very strong, with some very in-your-face tunes that are among the heaviest in prog metal to some quieter, more elaborate moments, with technical thrown in where it belongs.

The tentative track listing is: 'Peel', 'Walls', 'Leviathan Rising', 'Black And White World', 'Unformed', 'Keep Breathing', 'Another Day Dies', 'What Will You Say', 'Fistful Of Sand', 'Love Kills Us All / Life In One Day'

I am particular excited to report that 'Another Day Dies' is a duet between Ray Alder and a very special guest vocalist, James LaBrie of DREAM THEATER!

Once a firm release date is set, I'll provide another update. We're really looking forward to getting new music in your hands. Thanks again for your interest and support!"

Tuesday, December 23, 2008 - Redemption DVD news
Redemption have issued the following update:

We received well over 100 entries for naming the DVD, and the winner is a three-way tie. Congratulations to Elia Anie, Josh Rundquist and Todd Wimer, all of whom suggested something very close to what we went with. Redemption's live DVD will be titled Frozen in the Moment: Live in Atlanta. It will be released on Inside Out and the release dates are:

Germany, Austria and Switzerland: February 27, 2009
Rest of Europe: March 2, 2009
North America: March 3, 2009

The track listing consists of: 'Threads', 'Bleed Me Dry', 'Nocturnal', 'Memory', 'The Suffocating Silence', 'Release', 'Fall On You', 'Sapphire', 'The Death Of Faith & Reason'.

In addition, there will be a 12 minute video and photo tour diary set to our unreleased instrumental from the DREAM THEATER songwriting contest that we wrote back in 2003 or so.

Lastly, there will be some funny outtakes which will be embarrassing to us and pretty damn funny to all of you.

We'll be hopefully making over this page in the next few days and including a video for one of the songs.

Congratulations to our three winners - we'll be contacting you to ensure you can get your autographed copy shortly after they are released. And thanks to everybody who participated -- there were a lot of great ideas from our fans!

More news to come regarding new music in 2009.

Happy holidays and thanks as always for your interest and support."

Thursday, August 28, 2008 - Album and DVD news from Redemption
Latest news from Redemption:

Hello friends.

It has been a long several months of negotiating with our label but we finally have news.

Redemption's live DVD will be released early next year. It was filmed in 5-camera hi-definition at the Progpower festival in Atlanta. It will be released as a DVD with a bonus live CD of the performance.

The performance includes:

Threads
Bleed Me Dry
Nocturnal
Memory
The Suffocating Silence
Fall On You
Release
Sapphire
The Death of Faith & Reason

Runtime for the concert will be approximately 67 minutes. In addition, the DVD will contain a bonus tour diary / slideshow of our tour with Dream Theater, with our unreleased instrumental based on Dream Theater's Stream of Consciousness that we recorded before Ray joined the band. It was this instrumental that caught the attention of Dream Theater, so we thought it would be fun to include it on a DVD that commemorates our first tour with them.

Additional bonus materials will be included as well.

We also have a winner in the contest to name our DVD...over the over 100 entries we received, four chose the same name. We'll announce that name, and the winners (who will receive autographed copies of the DVD) in the next couple of weeks.

Lastly, we are hard at work writing material for Redemption's fourth CD and should have new music out before next summer. There will be between 8 and 10 tracks, and they range from heavy to epic, with the signature Redemption sense of musical urgency to them. We're very excited to start recording in the next several weeks.

Thank you very much for your continued interest and support through this extended period of silence...it's been frustrating for us as well, but we look forward to putting this delay behind us and getting back to making music for you.

All the best,
Redemption

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 - Redemption Announce Permanent Keyboardist
Redemption have issued the following update:

"Hello folks. It's been far too long... but then we've been busy!

We are in the finishing touches of the video edit for our upcoming DVD, and in finalizing distribution terms with InsideOut. We're putting together some great bonus materials for it, including a performance of us with our friends in PAGAN'S MIND, a video montage of our tour with DREAM THEATER, and some other goodies.

We've also selected a winning entry from our contest where YOU, our fans and friends, pick the name of our DVD. The name is great, and we'll announce it as soon as the "ink is dry" on our deal with InsideOut.

I'm pleased to announce that Greg Hosharian, the immensely talented keyboard player who joined us last year for our tour with Dream Theater, has joined us full time. He will be playing keyboards along with me on our next CD, and will be touring, recording and writing with us in the future.

Lastly, those of you in Southern California on March 15th may be interested in seeing Chris at his drum clinic at Timbo's drum shop. Check our comments for details.

Sorry to take so damn long for this update - there will be more soon!

As always, thanks so much for your interest and support."

Sunday, April 15, 2007 - Redemption to support Dream Theater
Redemption is delighted to announce that we will be direct support for Dream Theater for all dates of their US summer tour.

This is obviously a dream come true for us and we are very much looking forward to playing out with such a pivotal band, as well as Into Eternity who will also be on the bill.

Dates are still being finalized, but the following shows have been announced thus far:

Fri July 27th - Gibson Amphitheater - Los Angeles, CA
Mon July 30th - E Center - Salt Lake City, UT
Tues July 31st - Paramount Theater - Denver, CO
Tues Aug 7th - Riverside Theater - Milwaukee, WI
Thurs Aug 9th - State Theater - Minneapolis, MN
Fri Aug 10th - Rosemont Theater - Chicago, IL
Sat Aug 11th - Tower City Amphitheater - Cleveland, OH
Tues Aug 21st - Bank Of America Pavillion - Boston, MA

For those of you aware of my rather demanding "day job," I personally will be making as many of these shows as possible (hopefully the significant majority of them). For the dates where I am unable to make it, we will be fortunate to have the talents of Sean Entrikin of Prymary taking my place. The rest of the band will be there at all dates.

We'll see you out on the road!!

Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - News from Redemption
Press release from Redemption:

Redemption signs worldwide deal with Inside Out Music - new album to be released in early 2007

Redemption, the Los Angeles-based progressive metal band led by guitarist / keyboardist / songwriter Nicolas van Dyk and featuring vocal legend Ray Alder of Fates Warning, has signed a worldwide multi-album deal with Inside Out Music. The first title released under this agreement will be the band's third release, The Origins of Ruin, tentatively slated for release in March/April 2007.

Injecting traditional progressive metal with an uncommon degree of heaviness and melody, Redemption's new CD follows up 2005's breakthrough release The Fullness of Time, the band's first with Alder, which generated tremendous critical and popular acclaim. With Bernie Versailles (guitars, Agent Steel), Chris Quirarte (drums, Prymary) and new bass player Sean Andrews (who performed on Henning Pauly's Chain project), Redemption is one of the most prominent up-and-coming progressive metal bands.

"Inside Out is the leading label in the progressive metal community and we are extremely pleased to join its stable of artists," begins van Dyk. "I have known Jim Pitulski (Inside Out America President) for nearly 10 years and Ray has known him much longer than that, and we're really excited to be working with the entire Inside Out team."

"As a label we haven't signed many metal orientated bands in the last few years, as we felt that we have to be careful who we sign to the label. In Redemption we have found a high quality addition to our roster and are looking forward to working with the entire Redemption team in the future!" says managing director at Inside Out Music.

The opening track from the new CD, The Suffocating Silence, can be found here. Redemption is already scheduled to play at the world-renowned ProgPower festival in Atlanta, GA in 2007 and will be announcing other dates shortly.

The band's new website, which is being launched at the same time as this announcement, can be found here.

Saturday, October 21, 2006 - Redemption confirmed for ProgPower USA VII and new song online
Redemption is the latest band confirmed for ProgPower USA VIII. Redemption is the brainchild of Nicolas van Dyk (guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter) and features the legendary Ray Alder (Fates Warning) on vocals and Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel) on guitars, along with drummer Chris Quirarte and bassist Sean Andrews.

"We're extremely excited to be part of the festival again," said van Dyk. "Our band largely formed at and around the very first Progpower, and we had the opportunity to play at ProgPower IV. We've been looking forward to coming back for quite some time, as this is the premiere festival of its kind. We'll have a lot of material to share with the audience!"

Thursday, October 12, 2006 - Redemption album news
News from Nick Van Dyk of Redemption:

Well after an exciting six week adventure with the German and US Postal Services, I can at long last confirm that I have the master recordings of The Origins of Ruin in my possession. They sound terrific -- they are cleaner and heavier than The Fullness of Time with greater dynamic range and a much beefier low end. This is due to a number of factors, most importantly the early involvement of Tommy this time 'round, as well as the good people at Sennheiser setting us up with some phenomenal gear for mic'ing the drums, and the use of some killer amplification from Brunetti.

We are now working on lining up European and Japanese distribution; our plans are to release everything in February / March 2007, with the US release through our good friends at Sensory Records. I know it seems like a long way off -- believe me, we're very impatient ourselves and we want to get this out more than anybody!

There should be more news in the next couple of weeks, including artwork and some other surprises, so check back.

As always, thanks for your interest and support!

Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - News from Redemption
Latest news from Redemption:

Hello friends!

Spurred on by an email asking me what we'd been up to, I thought I'd let people know that we were still working away at getting our music to you.

You can see some of the results of our photo shoot on our page here. Ray pulled double-duty, ducking out of Fates Warning rehearsals for a little while to take pictures, then heading back in. The shows in both the US and Europe were a great success and Ray is in terrific form.

We are all finished with the recording; I am going to Europe to mix the record in a few days and we should have a finished record by the end of July.

Travis Smith, the fantastic artist who has done our previous covers, is working way on the new one...the preliminary work is terrific and it should be coming together in the next few weeks.

Lastly, I am working on distribution deals worldwide. More on this as it becomes available.

Thanks again for your interest and support -- you can expect a more complete update in a few weeks.

Nick

Sunday, April 30, 2006 - Redemption studio update
An update from Redemption:

Hello all -

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel and we're just about finished tracking, with only a few vocal parts, a couple of guitar solos and a bit of orchestration remaining to be finished. We hope to be done in the next two weeks...and then we need to schedule mixing in Germany with Tommy. In the meantime, we'll be working again with Travis Smith on some artwork.

We don't have a finished track listing, but the songs are as follows:

The Suffocating Silence
Bleed Me Dry
The Death of Faith & Reason
Memory
The Origins of Ruin
Man of Glass
Blinded
Used to Be
Fall on You

In addition, we have two covers which will find their way as bonus tracks: UFO's Love to Love, and Tori Amos' Precious Things, which features the outstanding vocalist Anna Kristina, a well known performer from San Francisco with a broad list of session and live credits.

Thanks, as always, for your interest and support!

All the best,
Nick

Monday, February 13, 2006 - Redemption Returns to the Studio
Latest news from Redemption:

We have finished the writing for our new CD, The Origins of Ruin, and we have scheduled studio time in March and April to record the CD with a hopeful release in September.

We are once again collaborating with well-known producer Tommy Newton (UFO, Conception, Helloween, Ark, Elegy, etc.) and he will be joining us in Los Angeles to start tracking in a few weeks.

The new material is in a similar vein as The Fullness of Time, and the band has really hit our stride in terms of songwriting. With the exception of our new bass player, we retain the same lineup as last time and that will go a long way to making the record sound more organic and consistent. And since Sean, our new bass player, is stylistically similar to James I think the sound will be very much a natural extension of Fullness. You can expect the bass to be more prominent on this record, as well.

Some of the working titles for our songs are The Suffocating Silence, Bleed Me Dry, Memory, Martyr, Used to Be, and Fall On You. We also plan on recording two unconventional cover songs for bonus tracks.

Our lineup is:

Ray Alder - Vocals
Nick van Dyk - Guitar and keys
Bernie Versailles - Guitar
Sean Andrews - Bass
Chris Quirarte - Drums

I promise an update from the studio once we have something meaningful to report. Until then, thanks, as always, for your interest and support.

We look forward to getting this new CD out and in your hands later this year!

Regards,

Nick

Monday, January 24, 2005 - Redemption news
The new Redemption album (with Ray Alder on vocals) is tentatively scheduled for a June release in the US. The track list is as follows:

Threads (5:43)
Parker's Eyes (6:15)
Scarred (7:56)
Sapphire (15:55)
The Fullness of Time:
- Rage (5:01)
- Despair (3:20)
- Release (5:16)
- Transcendence (7:59)

Nick Van Dyk on "The Fullness of Time":

"The Fullness of Time is another "suite" of sorts, but this whole CD is more song-oriented than the previous CD, so each of the four pieces stands alone as an individual song. It is less thematically connected than the Desperation suite from the self-titled CD, although there are common compositional threads, particularly at the end of Transcendence which combines some of the vocal melodies from the preceding pieces. At any rate, it plays like four songs rather than a 20+ minute beast. Much more digestible that way."

Check the official Redemption website for more information on this band.

Latest news from Nick Van Dyk on Redemption with Ray Alder on vocals:

Hey everybody!

Time for an update. We've finished tracking all of the music and vocals for the new CD and they sound incredible. We're very excited for you all to hear it! It came out very heavy, very song-oriented but quite progressive as well. And Ray, as I suspected, has taken it to a new level with his amazing vocals.

I'll have some mixing news for you in a few weeks. Thanks for your continued interest and support!

Tuesday, September 21, 2004 - Ray Alder is Redemption's New Vocalist
Sensory Records recording artists Redemption announced that Ray Alder, legendary vocalist of progressive metal icons Fates Warning and of his solo project Engine, has become Redemption's vocalist. He is currently recording vocal tracks for Redemption's second CD, tentatively titled The Fullness of Time, scheduled for release in early 2005.

"I'm incredibly excited that Ray is our singer," commented Nicolas van Dyk, Redemption's primary songwriter and guitarist/keyboardist. "He's always been my favorite vocalist in progressive metal and his voice sounds amazing with the new Redemption material."

Alder and van Dyk have been friends for some time. Alder was a guest musician for one track on Redemption's self-titled debut (released on Sensory in 2003), and he joined the group on-stage at Atlanta's ProgPower festival in September of that year to perform this song. The two also collaborated previously on a track on the first Engine CD.

When writing began for the upcoming Redemption CD, the band had planned to work with Corey Brown (Magnitude 9 and Section XVI) who had stepped in to sing for the band at ProgPower. However, that changed when Alder heard the new material.

"When I heard the new songs that Nick had written, they immediately struck me as really heavy, and progressive but more focused at the same time," said Alder. "Not to take anything away from the debut, but this CD is a big step forward. They're just great, heavy songs and I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of."

"I want to emphasize, Corey Brown is a talented friend and a true professional," said van Dyk. "The decision to work with Ray is in no way indicative of any discord with Corey, whose performance with us in Atlanta was awesome and who possesses an amazing voice. I was fully prepared to work with Corey and I would have been very happy with him in the band. But there was no way I was going to turn down the chance to have Ray in Redemption. It's a unique opportunity to work and perform with a vocal legend, as well as a close friend. I think Ray's voice will take Redemption to a truly special level."

Alder, of course, remains the vocalist for Fates Warning (who are releasing their new CD "FWX" on October 5th) and Engine. "Ray has a fair amount on his plate, and before we began work on Redemption together we had to make certain that his ongoing commitments to Fates Warning and Engine would still allow him to commit himself to Redemption as well," explained van Dyk. "I didn't just want to hire a session vocalist. Redemption is a band. Ray and I are comfortable that Redemption will fit into his schedule, both for recording and live performance."

Recording for the new CD, other than vocals, is nearly completed. "It's significantly heavier than the previous CD, but it's very melodic at the same time," said van Dyk. "It's still quite progressive but I think it's more song-oriented and the songwriting, both musically and lyrically, is much more mature than our debut. I'm really looking forward to people's reactions - I think it's going to surprise a lot of people. We'll be letting people know a bit more about the CD, including its production details and track information, as the release date gets a bit closer."

In addition to van Dyk and Alder, Redemption's other members are guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel and Engine), and bassist James Sherwood and drummer Chris Quirarte (both of Prymary). Versailles has been a member of the band since its inception, while Sherwood and Quirarte joined for last year's Prog Power performance and have been members since that time.

The group's new CD will be released by Sensory Records, a division of The Laser's Edge. The targeted release date is spring, 2005.

Saturday, September 4, 2004 - Redemption news
Here is the latest Redemption news from Nick Van Dyk:

Hey folks! Wanted to drop by and update you on our progress.

We've tracked all the music -- it sounds awesome! We haven't finalized track lists, so I won't go into too much detail, but I will say there are two "epic" tracks -- one about 16 minutes, and one a four-part suite that is really four separate songs, not unlike the Desperation suite on our self-titled release.

Chris' drumming is INSANE. I think he's going to get a lot of notoriety for his performance. And James' bass playing has added a lot of texture to the music as well and sounds incredible.

Compositionally, I think this CD is much heavier than the previous one, but still very melodic -- more melodic than the last one as well. It's still progressive but the music is more "song-oriented" than our first CD.

We start tracking vocals tonight; then it's time for some finishing touches on keyboards, and Bernie's solo work (mine is done) and then it will be ready to mix. We hope to mix sometime during October and are still shooting for a release in the spring of 2005.

I'll continue to keep you posted. Best wishes to you all!

Tuesday, July 20, 2004 - Redemption - New album progress
Here is an update from Redemption:

Hi all.

Wanted to let you know that we're set to track drums for Redemption's upcoming CD, tentatively titled The Fullness of Time. Chris Quirarte and I are heading into Bill's Place studios for four days later this week to record drums for approximately 52 minutes of new music.

It's gonna be HEAVY!!!! :)

We'll keep you posted. Until then, be safe and enjoy yourselves.

And thanks, as always, for your interest and support.

Best,
Nick

Thursday, May 27, 2004 - Redemption news
Here is an update on Redemption from Nick Van Dyk:

Hello everybody!

Sorry for the long silence, but there's a lot of interesting news to report.

First, as noted below, Redemption entered the Dream Theater songwriting contest whereby we took the notes from DT's studio sessions and composed our own instrumental using the same keys, tempos and time signatures that eventually became Stream of Consciousness from DT's Train of Thought CD. We tied for 5th out of about 70 entries worldwide and our song will be featured along with the other winners on a CD being offered through DT's fanclub. The artwork is being finalized now, so the CD should be available soon. More information when it becomes available.

Second, I am pleased to announce that Chris Quirarte (drums), James Sherwood (bass) and Corey Brown (vocals) have joined the band on a permanent basis. Many of you may be familiar with Corey's vocals in his bands Magnitude 9 and Section XVI, as well as his previous work with the band Psychodrama. He has a powerful, melodic voice and it's a great fit for Redemption. Chris and James form the rhythm section of the outstanding progmetal band Prymary. All three of these musicians performed with Redemption at last year's Progpower festival, and Chris and James also performed on the recent DT songwriting contest entry. I can't wait to hear their contributions to the next Redemption CD! Which brings me to the last item...

Songwriting is well underway for our next CD, tentatively titled The Fullness of Time. There are seven songs totally around 52 minutes plus a bonus track. It will be heavier, more melodic, more progressive and leaner than the first CD, while still retaining the Redemption signature sound...to the extent we have one! :) I know this is a tall order, but I'm extremely excited about our new material and I'm confident you will be, too. When songwriting is finished, we'll be recording over the next couple of months, and then mixing this fall. We anticipate an early 2005 release.

Visit the official Redemption website for more information on the band.
