Friday, January 11, 2008 - News from Opeth
Opeth leader Mikael Åkerfeldt has issued the following update:

"As some of you might know Opeth is doing a pretty rare gig on March 8th. A big fucking boat will be crossing the Nordic sea in the middle of the night, and onboard you'll hear some Swedish fucking prog whatever bollocks death type music! The Mellotronen store (the company sponsoring the event) has now closed down but you can reach them through their website at Mellotronen.com and read the blog about this event. You can also see the concert poster artwork (view at left), done by Roger Wooton and Glen Goring from COMUS. For me, this is insanely awesome that they've created this one especially for this event.??

This gig will be our warm up for the coming UK and US tour and we are most likely going to premier a new song on there plus a few old tunes. On top of that Comus are playing (for the first time since 1972), KATATONIA, LEAFHOUND, ANEKDOTEN, the legendary BO HANSSON and many more. There are some planned secret appearances that I can't really speak of but they will become legendary, no question about it.??It will be a nice trip I'm sure, lots of talk about obscure bands, lots of drinking, gambling (not me) and stuff like that. Maybe some of you will get lucky. I'll be nervous but it'll be awesome. Hope to see some of you there. I don't know how big the capacity of this boat is but I certainly advise you guys to check out the availability of the tickets well in advance as this is a one-time only happening.??

Anything else? Hmmmm... let's see... Oh, of course! The album is done, mixed and all. I'm listening to it right now. I want to boast, but I'll keep it together and do it later instead. More info on this soon!"

Thursday, May 17, 2007 - Guitarist Peter Lindgren leaves Opeth
Peter Lindgren has stepped down from his guitar wielding duties after 16 years in Opeth. Below is an open letter from Peter addressing the issue:

"It is with sadness I announce that Opeth and I are going separate ways after almost 16 years. The decision has been the toughest I've ever made but it is the right one to make at this point in my life.

The reason behind this is that I feel that I simply have lost some of the enthusiasm and inspiration needed to participate in a band that has grown from a few guys playing the music we love to a world-wide industry. The love of music has always been, and still is, our motive, but I personally have lost something along the way. The massive amount of touring has taken its toll. Opeth has worked extremely hard to get where we are right now and in order to persist and maintain the quality of the music, it is necessary that we continue to work hard and always stay focused. But in doing so, it means that we nowadays spend 18 or 19 months on the road and I don't feel the same enthusiasm for the upcoming world tour that I have felt earlier. I have come to a point where I realize I won't be able to give the band 100%, and from both sides this will not be good enough for what Opeth stands for. I will always love playing, listening to, and living music, but I will do it differently from now on.

These years has easily been the best of my life and I will always cherish the memory of what we have experienced together. I would like to thank the band, our management, record label people, all the bands I've made friends with for everything. Most of all, I would like to thank the fans from the depth of my heart for the support throughout the years.

I wish Mikael, Martin, Per and Axe all the best and I am confident they will continue doing the greatest music in the world!! /Peter"

Replacement Guitarist Announced! Fredrik Åkesson (Ex. Arch Enemy, Krux) Becomes Full Time Member!

Fredrik Åkesson has been confirmed as being the new guitarist in Opeth. Visit his MySpace.

Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "Well, I think it's too soon right now to fully be able to explain what I feel. Peter and I had been working in this band together for almost half of our lives and we shared some unforgettable experiences together all over the world. We will obviously remain friends and this "break up" has been on very good terms from both sides. We all wish him the best of luck with his future ventures!

Fredrik was the only name that popped up thinking about a replacement for Peter. In my opinion he's one of the top 3 guitar players out of Sweden. We all get along great as we've known each other for maybe 4 years + he already has the experience to take on the circus-like lifestyle we lead as members of Opeth.

I can't wait to see what he can bring to the table musically and also to get out on the roads touring together. His first gig will be at the Ilosaari festival in Finland. I'm sure he'll shit his pants before that one, but then again...so will I!"

Wednesday, May 4, 2005 - Opeth news
The latest news from the official Opeth website:

Per Wiberg has now officially joined Opeth as a permanent member of the band. As most of you know he's been touring with Opeth since their "Damnation" record. Spiritual beggars fans should not despair as he will continue playing and recording with them.

The band is currently hard at work in Fascination street studios. 9 titles have been recorded and at this moment Hammond organs and Mellotrons are being put down to tape. The recording is being supervised and engineered by Jens Bogren and produced by the band. Some song titles have been confirmed and will be posted here soon.

Several North American journalists will visit the studio in mid May for interviews and exclusive listening sessions.

We will soon confirm a handful of Scandinavian and European dates. The band will do a smaller trek round the key cities in Europe in September. This will be the first tour in support of the new album which is supposed to be released in late August/early September. More tour dates to come....

Have you forgotten...sorry for taking so much time...but: We will soon confirm the winner of the drawing contest too. There have been hundreds of pictures sent in and we thank you for these. The winner will get the task of drawing the band picture for the next Opeth Cd.

Record label??? Opeth have decided which label to sign to and the contracts are being done as you read. We will announce it here shortly!

Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - Opeth ready to record new album
News from Opeth:

Opeth will be entering Fashination Street Studios (in Stockholm, Sweden) on March 15 to record their 8th yet untitled opus. The band are currently in rehearsal mode, which is a rare occasion having recorded the last four records without rehearsing. The recording will be overseen by the uprising recording mogul Jens Bogren. As of today no names for production duties have surfaced and it looks like the next record will be a band produced effort. Nothing has been decided regarding who's taking care of the mix either so we'll have to keep you wondering. Opeth and their management have spent the last month meeting the five top label candidates for the next Opeth recording contract. The names are still secret but a decision will be made very soon and obviously announced here earlier than anywhere else. Several Summer festival appearances have been confirmed and will be posted here soon. A Summer tour of the US has also been confirmed and will be posted here soon as well. The matters are still very "hush, hush" so we can't say anything more at this point. What can be said is that the band will make a few low-profile apperances prior to the next release and several full blown headline tours all over the world after the release.

Thursday, October 30, 2003 - Opeth postpone Australian tour
Opeth have had to reschedule their previously announced Australian tour, originally slated to take place in December, because the price of flights to Australia were "ridiculously expensive" due to the time of year, making the tour uneconomical.

The dates will be re-scheduled for the last week of March 2004. Dates will be announced shortly. The group will also be attempting to include Perth this time.
